Photographer Sophie Traynor works within the creative industry, shooting a range of imagery for her various clients. Predominantly based within the commercial sector, Traynor focuses her creativity predominantly within beauty and beauty products, shooting a large commercial portfolio for her clients.
When speaking to Traynor, she addressed the importance in having a variety of skills within each photographic genre as this provides her with the additional work required in order to be a versatile artist. Although the desire is to specialise within a certain field, the reality as a freelance photographer is that these opportunities do not come around often enough and certainly does not pay a great a substantial amount.
Working for campaigns allows Traynor to explore both still life and portraiture, sharing how specific products look on the model. Due to the high demand and a constant continuation of new trends, often devalues photography, as a six-month budget is now often used throughout social media within the space of a month.
Traynor’s photographic practice often introduces one light, like most photographers, on half power to initially control how the lighting dynamics are considered within frame. Using a tripod eliminates problems that might arise and provides a constant focal point. Sophie’s preferred artistic style often consist of a flat lay, that’s slightly overhead, yet if a client required a more fashionable angle, Traynor would happily adapt to fulfil the brief. Clients often provide mood boards prior shoots to ensure Traynor can create these conventions prior to working within the Studio. Traynor predominantly uses a 24-105mm lens at a 25mm focal length, occasionally experimenting with an 100mm macro to allow for additional detail.
