During my time at Huddersfield University, I have attended a variety of Portfolio Reviews given by renowned photographers. These photographers have visited the University to provide additional and professional advice and opinions on my final year work.
I first met Max Ferguson throughout the first semester of my final year when I had a rough idea as to what work I wished to create. Sharing a variety of shots with Max that consisted of domestic household objects, portraits, and my Grandad’s belongings, I gained a better understanding on how to sequence images in order to convey narrative and meaning.
A few months later, documentary Photographer, Marc Wilson, also visited the University at the right time as I had been struggling to progress through second semester and develop my work further. Predominantly due to personal and family issues. Marc reviewed a few moquette photo books I had been working on and provided me with feedback that contradicted Max Fergusons advice drastically! However, comparing both practitioners’ thoughts towards my work helped me develop a middle ground project that I felt justified the subject better.
Towards the end of the academic year, on the 7th of April, I attended a portfolio review with Commercial Photographer Sophie Traynor and Photographer Thomas Duffield. I felt it was important to gain two very different practitioners views towards my work that day, particularly with the submission deadline looming. Both artists had very similar fond opinions towards my work, praising the narrative and execution and informing me that there were very little to change. Although I shared with them both a final copy of my printed photobook, they both loved, I received valuable feedback in regard to exhibition prints, choice, quality, and layout.
