During the 2020 Covid-19 Lockdown, shortly after finishing my first-year studies, I applied to compete within one of the many Canon Competitions. I was one of the 200 accepted throughout the world and attended weekly sessions with a French photographer named Camilla who provided me with a broader knowledge to the art of photography, how to approach and refine my work as an artist and how I would sell my work if I was to become a freelance Photographer. The weekly workshops took place on Zoom due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and also invited us into different rooms with varying artists for portfolio reviews if we wanted them. The whole process was so rewarding with my work almost being printed into the Canon Student Development Programme 2020 Book. It’s fair to say there were much stronger student photographers competing against my work but being selected with a first-year project and zine provided me with the confidence I sometimes lacked.
